Using PowerPoint effectively and completely as an educational tool requires many skills and techniques that are not typically shared with teachers. Here is your chance to start using advanced techniques in PowerPoint to create improved instructional materials. This class is designed to provide teachers with skills and experience in:

  • Effective Animation in Teaching PowerPoints
  • Modifying Slide Designs
  • Automated Animation for sharing concepts, stories and understandings
  • Using Sound, Music and Video
  • Interactive Animation and Triggers for Questioning and other activities

Participants will receive operational example files that can be put to immediate use in the classroom. Participants are expected to be comfortable with typical, basic use of PowerPoint.

Additional Information:
You may attend the class online or in person at ESD 105.   Online participation is available from any computer with a high-speed connection (at school or home with a broadband Internet connection).

The connection information to access the session will be sent out the day before or morning of the class and you must be enrolled by that time. You may access the class from any computer with a high-speed connection.

If connecting online it is highly recommended to use a headset w/microphone during the training.

Course Outcomes:1) Participants will be able to use effective animation techniques designed to increase student focus on important topics. Using Mayer's Theory of Multimedia Learning as the research basis participants will learn the rationale for these techniques designed to avoid a discordance a student's understanding of the material.
2) Participants will understand the techniques and rationale for using sound, music and video in educational presentation. Also, participants will learn how to modifying the provided Slide Designs so that they are more appropriate for classroom use.
3) Participants will be able create an "Tell a Story" slide with automated animation for sharing concepts, stories and understandings in an engaging, visual manner. Also, they be able to use and create interactive questioning slides with animation and triggers.
