LENS:  Learning Empowering Networking in Science

The 2009-2010 LENS Math-Science Partnership Grant provides a series of professional development offerings for Secondary Science and Math teachers:

  • Content classes to develop a deeper understanding of the concepts in standards-based, inquiry-based science and math instructional materials commonly used in the region.
  • Training that supports research-based instructional practices in science and math classrooms.
  • Courses to integrate the use of technology that supports research-based instructional practices and inquiry-based learning.

Additional Information:
The Science of Mixtures will focus on chemistry concepts that explain why some compounds dissolve in water and others do not, why some stains are removed by water and others are not, and how chromatography works.

Participants will be provided the opportunity to connect the concepts from Science of Mixtures to the classroom.

The Science of Mixtures is designed for Middle School Science teachers, but High School Science teachers are welcome to attend.

Participants will:
•        Deepen understanding of science concepts related to mixtures that are embedded in curriculum unit(s).
