This training is designed for 9th - 10th grade teachers. They will learn how to competently and confidently implement the H.E.L.P. (Helping Every Living Person) Suicide Prevention Curriculum in their classrooms. By the end of the session, participants will be able to:

  • Identify the key concepts of the H.E.L.P. curriculum
  • Recognize the learning objectives for each of the 4-45 minute units
  • Understand the myths and facts of youth suicide • Lead student problem solving around obstacles to helping a friend in need
  • Teach students to use key intervention skills with a depressed/suicidal friend
  • Facilitate student practice of intervention skills

Additional Information:
Participants will receive a curriculum binder in addition to the training.

Course Outcomes:1) Participants will learn to implement a suicide prevention curriculum designed to be taught to high school students as part of a health curriculum, classroom guidance counseling curriculum, or prevention intervention curriculum

3) Participants will learn how to lead student problem solving around obstacles to helping a friend in need
