| An alternative or companion to coaching is the enhancement mathematics skills through teacher leadership. Teacher leaders are those who have an interest in mathematics and wish to take on a leadership role without leaving full time classroom teaching assignment. Two hour, after school meetings held once a month will provide a forum for teacher leaders to break the isolation and connect with others and create a reginal community of learners; become involved in critical dialogue and the discussion of problems of practice; stay updated on state and national issues regarding mathematics; assist the region in mathematics by becoming regional trainers; learn how to facilitate a modified lesson study group; and understand the elements of a powerful mathematics program.
