A detailed training for a team of indiviudals who will implement the Migrant Education Regional Office "Parents as Leaders" curriculum in their school district. The curriculum was designed and developed specifically for Migrant and Hispanic families, and includes the following four sessions: Getting Acquainted/Trust Building, Leadership Defined, Communication, and Goal Setting. The program guides parents to enhance and/or develop leadership skills by using interactive hands-on activities.

Sheltered Instruction Observation Protocol - SIOP   (View any scheduled events)

The Sheltered Instruction Observation Protocol (SIOP) is one the most current models for English Language Instruction based on research created by Jana Echevarria, Mary Ellen Vogt and Deborah J. Short. This model was developed to provide English Language learners teachers with a well articulated, practical model of sheltered instruction. The SIOP model facilitates high quality instruction for English Language Learners in content area teaching. It is also used as a model for lesson planning and implementation of high quality sheltered instruction.

Sheltered Instruction Observation Protocol (SIOP)one-day training session is designed for administrators who want to learn more about the SIOP Model to gain insight in how the implementation of the Sheltered Instruction Observation Protocol model in their schools and districts can have a positive impact on teaching English Language Learners.

Educators will work together to achieve their collective purpose of learning for all. They will create structures to promote a collaborative culture in which they can share their successes in implementing the models, and to have discourse regarding questions and challenges. They will be able to judge their effectiveness on the basis of results. They will work together to improve student achievement. Teachers will be able to develop and will be able to identify how his or her students have performed as a result of being trained in the two models.
